This month at Access Consciousness, we’re focusing on new possibilities for supporting mental health.
Millions of people have used the tools of Access Consciousness to not only improve their mental health but actually create a totally new way of dealing with common conditions like anxiety, stress and overwhelm.
For most people, things like anxiety, depression and extreme stress have been accepted as a part of life, and have become the price we pay for the way things are.
But what if it was possible for stress and anxiety to be totally changeable?
Would you be up for exploring a different perspective?
Keep reading to find out more!
When anxiety happens:
Many of us have experienced feelings of anxiety at one point or another. These feelings can range from feelings of intense worry and unease to physical symptoms like tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
When we feel bad, our first instinct is to conclude that something is terribly wrong – otherwise, why would we be feeling this way?
But what if we are interpreting these bad feelings as anxiety and stress, when they could be something else entirely?
This is where our first tool comes in.
Tool #1: The feeling may not be yours
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a sensitive person. What if that didn’t have to be a problem anymore? What if you didn’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders?
Sensitive people are like psychic sponges – they can’t help but suck up the feelings of the world around them. (it’s actually a great gift, but we will get to that later!)
If you’re experiencing stress or anxiety, there is a chance you could be absorbing the worry, chaos, and drama of the world around you. We live in a dramatic, traumatic world, and it’s easy to pick up on feelings that belong to everyone else without even realizing it.
If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, we have a tool that can change it within minutes. Like most of our tools, it starts with a question.
What we have found is that 98% of your thoughts, feelings and emotions, don’t actually belong to you. You’re picking them up from the world around you.
ASK:“Who does this belong to?” or “Is this mine?”
If you ask this question, and it lightens up at all, this feeling never belonged to you. You can simply return it to the sender, even if you don’t know who the sender is!
If you’re still feeling heavy after asking this question, move on to our second tool.
Tool #2: Your point of view creates your reality, reality doesn’t create your point of view.
When we feel stress or anxiety, we often assume that this is a result of our circumstances.
Thoughts like “I’m anxious because I’ve lost my job and I’m freaking out!” or “I’m stressed because my workload is totally unmanageable” are common, but may not be entirely true.
Here’s why: this point of view makes us the effect of stress, and removes any control we have over stress and anxiety on our lives.
What if anxiety and stress are something you choose as a way to react to situations? If you changed your perspective, would it be possible to change how you’re responding?
We know – who would willingly choose to be stressed?! Here’s how it works:
Focusing on the fact that you’ve lost your job, or that you’re overwhelmed with work, is a choice. Your point of view is creating your reality, and you are actively choosing a point of view that you are stressed and anxious.
To create a different possibility here, you can choose a different point of view, and take yourself out of autopilot.
For example, if you lose your job, what if you looked at it as a doorway to a new possibility? A new adventure? If your relationship ends, what if you started with looking at the gift in that? What if change didn’t have to be a problem?
This leads us to tool number three…
Tool #3: Ask Questions
Questions are the fastest way to choose a different possibility to stress and anxiety, and take you out of that negative autopilot.
Some questions to help create a different point of view include:
- What else is possible here?
- How does it get any better than this?
- If this wasn’t a problem, what else would be possible here?
- What’s right about this that I’m not getting?
