There are as many different ‘formulas’ for using Intention Manifestation as people. If you’re reading this, you are probably looking for just the right set of words and actions to do that will make your dreams come true without effort. Sorry, but no one set of words or actions will work for everyone. Everyone is different.
Many Different ‘formulas’ for Intention Manifestation
I will attempt to summarize the most popular versions of Intention Manifestation and tips on developing your own. These summaries will, of course, not fully explain everything behind the formulas. I recommend reading the books by the various authors if one of them seems to appeal to you.
Intention Manifestation is mainly used by people who practice The Law of Attraction. Still, others who understand focus and definiteness of purpose use a form of it also. It is used to get the things you want using thought power. What you think about the most is what you get.
Manifestation of intentions by Abraham Hicks
Abraham is a spirit that communicates through Esther and Jerry Hicks. Their Intention Manifestation focus isn’t a formula of words but a formula of “Vibrational Relativity” or alignment. You must FEEL good about yourself, life, and your intention. Use whatever words or tricks you need to align with your stated desires using your “Emotional Guidance System.” Finding a way to believe and feel that you can and will have what you desire. But they warn you not to become attached to needing the outcome. This attachment will drive away your intention.
They provide many ways to move through the different emotions, from fear and despair through worry and pessimism to optimism, passion, and joy, from finding thoughts that feel better to playing games. For example, to use a bad debt situation, here is a thought progression to get you more into vibrational alignment with your desire to purchase what you want.
I’ll never get out of debt and be able to afford the things I want.
But, if I plan well, I can shift things around so that my money goes further.
Responsible debt is not bad; it has allowed me to enjoy some things sooner than I would have otherwise.
With or without debt, I can achieve financial balance. Unfortunately, some of the most successful entities have enormous debt.
One game involves imagining you are spending money. If you had the money, what would you spend it on? How does it feel to be able to buy that?
“You’re not manifesting, you’re creating the environment that allows the manifestation.”
-Abraham Hicks.
I recommend the books by the Hicks, even if you can’t believe that there really is a spirit Abraham communicating in these books. Having positive emotions is a key to using Intention Manifestation. They provide valuable tips on improving your emotions. Even physicians and psychologists agree that a person’s emotions are key to being happy and/or healthy. If you don’t quite believe in Intention Manifestation, work on improving your outlook on life, and you will improve your health and life in general.
Intention Manifestation for Tony Robbins
Intention Manifestation for Tony Robbins, in Awaken the Giant Within, consists of writing a paragraph explaining all the reasons why you are committed to achieving this and generally what you will do to obtain it. Including the pain, you experience by not getting this. He believes in moving away from pain and toward pleasure by describing both. This is to give you enough motivation to act upon your desire. If you make the pain bad enough, you will move.
Then meditate on this at least daily. Go about your life looking for opportunities to move toward your goal. But his key is similar to Hicks’; to maintain a positive emotional state. Eliminate negative thoughts and emotions. There are no problems, only challenges.
Dr. Wayne Dyer views Intention Manifestation a little differently. “Intention is not something you do, but rather a force that exists in the universe as an invisible field of energy”. It is the source of all creation and creative energies. You utilize thoughts and meditation to tap into this force to purposely bring what you want into existence. Brute force and determination not only are not needed but are an indication that you don’t truly believe it will happen without much effort. You are letting your ego get in your way. Ego disconnects us from accessing the force of Intention. You must set aside your ego in order to purposely access Intention. You need to open yourself to the seven faces of Intention: creativity; kindness; love; beauty; expansion; unlimited abundance; receptivity.
But his ‘formula’ is to write down your intention as in “It is my Intention to: feel successful and attract abundance into my life”. He likes 10 steps but I find they boil down to:
- Banish doubts. Accept that you are a part of the Universal source, as such you are perfect and deserving.
- Monitor your thoughts and feelings. Keep them aligned with your Intention.
- Initiate Actions based on your heart.
- Give to others without strings. Detach yourself from the outcome.
- “Continuously contemplate yourself as being surrounded by the conditions you wish to produce”. This contemplation includes imagining during meditation.
- Be thankful and appreciative of everything in your life
He mixes up the order and expands on some areas depending on what you are trying to manifest, but he always ends with the mediation of the outcome wanted than being thankful.
Modern Intention Manifestation by Nightingale
Earl Nightingale, the original writer of modern Intention Manifestation books, recommends that you state precisely what you want when you want it, and what you will do in return for it. Things don’t come from anything. You must work for them. Stating your intentions is to give you the focus and determination to overcome any obstacles that get in your way. With a clear picture of what you want and a steady focus on it, you will get them. Nightingale specifies the words too. It goes like this:
By (date), I will have (amount of money) which will come to me in various amounts from time to time in the interim. In return for this money I will give the best service as (profession) I can. Rendering fullest possible quantity and best possible quality of service I am capable of. I am confident I will reach this goal. I can see this money. I can feel this money. |
This is what I used to get my ‘dream’ job a few years back. My intention went something like this:
By Sept. 1, 2002, I will have a job earning at least $50,000 per year working with computers in a variety of ways. In return for this I will give the best service in computers I can. Rendering fullest possible quantity and best possible quality of service I am capable of. I am confident I will reach this goal. I can see this job. I can see myself working in this position. |
I not only got a job where I could do almost all aspects of computer work, programming, hardware and software troubleshooting, training, networking, and security, but it was for $55,000! The best paying job I’d ever had.
Nightingale is kind of a precursor of Intention Manifestation. It’s not true intention Manifestation because he specifies that you MUST state what you will DO to earn the money. Current proponents of Intention Manifestation don’t include work or earning your wealth. But they do recommend striving to be of service to others as a way to be happy. Being Happy is necessary for it to work.
Nightingale also recommends using affirmations. An affirmation is a positive saying that you repeat frequently in order to improve your view, outlook, feelings… It could be a quote from someone else or something you make up yourself. Here are a few:
What you can Conceive and Believe, you can Achieve.
You can do it!
Every day in every way, you are getting better and better.
Affirmations didn’t seem to work for me. I wrote them down. Posted them where I would see them daily. I recorded them and listened to the recording in my sleep. As I said, they didn’t seem to do much. I couldn’t convince myself they were true. But over 20 years later, they still pop into my mind like a litany. Maybe they helped me to change the direction of my life by giving me the strength to get a divorce. While my life improved in many ways over the years, the dramatic improvement didn’t occur until my feelings about myself and my life’s potential changed between 2004-2008. That’s when I really started to believe in myself and do things for myself.
Affirmations are not necessary for Intention Manifestation, but if they can help improve your feelings and outlook, use them.
Common Threads of Intention Manifestation
There are some common threads that run through all the different views of Intention Manifestation:
- Determine what you want.
- Write it down.
- Believe that it will happen. Eliminate negative thoughts and feelings.
- Think about it happening.
- Detach yourself from the outcome while maintaining its desire.
- Be Grateful for everything and everyone in your life.
My Recommendations For Intention Manifestation
For Intention Manifestation to work it must be personal. Your own thoughts, words, and dreams.
Determine your dream. Write it down with as much detail as you can come up with. Include reasons why you want this and why it will happen. This is not your written intention. It is your full dream. Write a paragraph or a whole page or even two. Whatever it takes to fully describe what you want. It must be your vision written in your own words.
If your dream is a house, describe every room. Describe the landscape. Describe the feel of it, the feel of owning it, the feel of living in it. Create an advertisement for it.
Writing Intention Manifestation as sentence summary
Now write a short 2-3 sentence summary of your dream. I include a deadline. Some say don’t have a deadline because that puts a limit on the limitless power. I find, for myself, having no deadline or time frame, makes it feel like it’s something for the VERY distant future, not something happening soon, something to work on today. A distant goal doesn’t get me excited. If a deadline feels limited to you, don’t include it. If a deadline helps to bring it in focus, use it.
I don’t include anything negative. No reference to disease or problems or pain. That stuff just brings me down. It lowers my energy and emotional balance.
Put this summary on a sticky note or a 3×5 card and post it where you will see it at least every day. Preferably many times during the day.
Some people include a phrase like “For the highest good” or “for the greatest benefit of all”. This rings false to me so I don’t include it. I want that million dollars for me, not for the huddled masses. Even if I want it so I can help the huddled masses. If something doesn’t feel right to you, don’t include it in your intention. It just lowers your vibration and belief.
Reading and visualizing your Intention Manifestation
Read your intention to yourself and out loud every time you see it. Generally, I have a bit of a disconnect with reading something out loud. I don’t seem to comprehend it like I do when I read silently. But sometimes vocalizing enhances the concentration. I’m sure you’ve had the experience of having read something and having no clue as to what you just read. This happens when we allow our minds to drift. Verbalizing forces the focus.
Concentrate, visualize or meditate on the goal having been reached. How do you feel? What do you see? Hear? Feel? Smell? Utilize all your senses to immerse yourself in the vision. When I was looking for a new home, I missed including hearing in my visualization. I was looking for a bit of seclusion, so I can’t readily see my neighbors and they can’t readily see me. But I can sure hear that band practicing in the garage 2 houses down.
Gratitude: Simple Secret to Manifesting
I agree that keeping a positive attitude and emotion is very important. One recommended way is to feel gratitude for what you’ve got. I had a problem with this too. Gratitude brings up images of being forced by my parents to say thank you for a gift I didn’t like. Not a good feeling. I switched it to feeling appreciation, which felt much better.
I appreciate that my body works so well. I appreciate having a dependable vehicle to get me where I want to go. I appreciate having a house that keeps me warm, dry, and comfortable. I appreciate air conditioning, computers, and cell phones. Thinking of all the things I appreciate makes me feel good. When I feel good, I am better able to believe my intention will come true.
How does detaching accelerate manifestation?
Many writers say to remove or detach yourself from the outcome of your intention. I had a real problem with this one. How do you detach yourself from something that you are actively trying to reach? I finally came up with the metaphor of a watched pot.
You’ve heard the saying ‘a watched pot never boils? It’s really referring to having patience and the belief that it will happen. Every time you lift the lid to check on it, you delay the boil by letting out heat. Every time you check to see if your intention is really working you are dampening its manifestation by throwing doubts at it. That’s not to say that you don’t watch to see that the stove is still on and heating the pot. You keep the heat on your intention by repeating it and visualizing it. But you maintain an awareness of it simmering so it doesn’t boil over.
Keep heating your Intention. Be open to clues that will help you obtain your desire.
So, I don’t think detachment is needed for Intention Manifestation. I sure wasn’t ‘detached’ from wanting the right job when I used it to get the job I wanted.
If you’re like most people, you can come up with many many dreams you want to be fulfilled. I limit myself to concentrating on 3 intentions for a period of time, usually a month. I haven’t been able to meditate on more than 3 intentions per meditation session. My mind wanders too much. Perhaps with more practice, I can increase that number.
After a month on an intention, whether it’s been fully realized or not, I move on to a different intention. I do review all my unfulfilled dreams and goals periodically. I may even repeat focusing on an intention; I focused on before, especially if it’s a long-term item like maintaining my health and fitness.
Sometimes I have a quick intention that I don’t even write down, like
“I will find the perfect book to help me understand _______.
I see myself scanning the shelves and selecting a book. I feel the joy of realizing it is the perfect one.”
Intention Manifestation will work if you have Visualization, Conviction, and Concentration.
So here’s a formula:
Visualization + Conviction + Concentration = Intention Manifestation.
