The cards pictured are from the Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck.
Five of Wands and Nine of Swords
The Five of Wands helps us understand how to create change in our world. It asks us to listen to messages inside, even the ones that harbor feelings of negativity or resentment. We are being called to investigate what makes us irritable, uncomfortable, or angry.
This card reminds us to pay attention to what tests our patience, especially in our relationships. It wants us to question these things and see if there is another way.
How can we prioritize the tasks that are meaningful to us? Can we choose to spend more time with people who lift us up? Is this the optimal environment for us? Is it possible to make some changes?
Through the Five of Wands, we slow down and investigate our world. We examine the things we do throughout our day and the feelings they evoke. We step out of autopilot and explore opportunities.
Through this awareness, we find we have the agency to create a better experience for ourselves. We are not just stuck with the way things are. We can create what our lives look like.
Maybe we need to establish more boundaries regarding what we share with others. Maybe we should spend more time listening and less time debating to prevent conflict. Or perhaps we should delegate and say no to things we don’t want to do.
Under the power of the Five of Wands, we show up with kindness and make changes (no matter how small) to support our joy. We feel an intentional shift as we move through the days ahead.
Our next card pushes us to find clarity in our thinking and kindness for ourselves. It wants us to be aware of any cruel or confusing thoughts we are currently holding on to.
Do you wake up in the morning with a feeling of gratitude? Do you look in the mirror and see your strengths? Do you appreciate your talents and have compassion for your flaws?
Or do you wake up and see what is going wrong? Do you look in the mirror and see what you don’t like about yourself? Do you generally have a negative perspective?
The Nine of Swords wants us to listen to how we talk to ourselves, our harsh criticisms, and our negative loops. We must watch them, observe them, and note their tone.
This overly critical thinking is the shadow side of Virgo, our current season. Often, out of fear, it comes up to protect us but ends up hurting us instead. We can speak to this energy and say, ‘We know you are trying to keep us safe, but we no longer need your help.’
The Nine of Swords illuminates the harshness of our words and their impact. Cruel thinking is false thinking; it brings dark clouds where they need not be. This week, we become aware of this energy and make a shift to the light.
Mantra or the week: I bring love and compassion to myself and embrace all the possibilities that lie ahead.
